Security and privacy

Your notes are stored on your computer and work offline. Sync is optional. When it’s on, each change is encrypted on your device before upload, and only your devices hold the keys.

What the sync server can and cannot see

We cannot see

  • Titles, page contents and tags
  • File names, attachments and PDF marks
  • The names of your devices
  • Your encryption keys

We can see

  • Your email and sign-in times
  • The IP address you sign in from
  • Your devices’ platforms and app versions
  • Roughly how much you store, and when you edit
Your question to Ask, if you use our AI modelIt’s passed on to write the answer. With your own key or a model on your computer, it never reaches us.

Your recovery key

When you turn on sync, you save a recovery key. It lets a new device in if you lose the others.

Nobody can reset it, including us. Lose every device and the key, and your synced notes are gone.
